OSWAPIC President’s Update

OSWAPIC President’s Update

As we move into the second quarter of the year, I would like to share several important updates and ongoing initiatives within our chapter.

OSWAPIC Membership

We continue to experience challenges related to national APIC membership alignment with the OSWAPIC chapter membership. Specifically, some OSWAPIC members are not being accurately identified or maintained on the OSWAPIC “good standing” list. I have reached out to APIC to address these discrepancies, but have not yet received a response. While some issues may be associated with corporate membership purchases, this does not account for all affected members. We will continue to advocate for a resolution to ensure all members receive appropriate recognition and access. If you are unable to log in to the OSWAPIC website or connect to meetings, please reach out to me directly so you can be added to the list of impacted members.

OSWAPIC Meeting Updates

New meeting day and time!

Our meeting day has changed! We are now meeting on the second Friday of each month at 11:30 – 1:30 pm! Make sure to change the date on your calendar! See you there.

Meetings will be via Teams!

OSWAPIC meetings are now being held via Microsoft Teams. This will help to improve accessibility and consistency with meeting links. If accessing the meeting invite from the OSWAPIC website, you will need to be logged in.

Meeting agendas will be available on the OSWAPIC website for each meeting. Navigation links can be found in two ways:

  • Events → Calendar → Month view
  • Member Area → Calendar

APIC Annual Conference Awards

We are pleased to recognize seven recipients of APIC Conference Awards. Each awardee has been notified by phone and will receive a follow-up email outlining the award amount and associated requirements. We look forward to their participation and representation of our chapter at the conference.

To further strengthen equity and transparency, we implemented a new selection process for award recipients this year. This updated approach is designed to ensure a fair and unbiased evaluation while supporting broader distribution of financial resources among OSWAPIC members and leaders.

Anonymized applications are evaluated using a standardized scoring rubric based on four key elements:

  • OSWAPIC leadership involvement
  • A written submission demonstrating performance, innovation, measurable outcomes, or impact on infection prevention and control (IPC)
  • The applicant’s practice setting, with additional consideration given to those in resource-limited environments
  • Previous attendance at in-person APIC conferences

Thank you for your continued engagement and commitment to advancing infection prevention and control across our region.

With appreciation for all you do,

Therese Phin, RN, AL-CIP, CIC, LTC-CIP
